Officials investigate after house fire in Newport

NEWPORT, Vt. (WCAX) – All residents are safe after a structure fire in the Northeast Kingdom overnight.

Officials say the fire happened at a home on Vermont Route 100 in Newport, just before 1:00 a.m. Saturday.

When crews arrived they found a single-family home fully engulfed in flames. They say everyone was able to make it out safely, but residents were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Vermont Route 100 was closed between Niles Road and Route 14 for several hours, but is now reopened.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
