BARRE, Vt. (WCAX) – A new community-made mural in Barre is turning literature into art.
At the crossroads of Brook Street and Seminary, under the trees of Brook Street School, were the painted faces of children listening to a woman read. A community painting session happened all day today with over 60 participants from across the city.
Kids and adults alike participated in the street-long paint-by-numbers extravaganza. Jeremy Jarvis is an artist from Columbus, Ohio who came to Vermont to make the mural happen.
“I wanted to design a mural that showed how children can be inspired by the things that they read, and by the things that people read to them,” said Jarvis.
Complete with bubbles full of mythical and magical creatures and dinosaurs, Jarvis says he hopes as the children grow, they continue to be inspired by literature and the art they helped beautify the community with.
