Burke raising money to repair flood-damaged bridge

BURKE, Vt. (WCAX) – You can’t go under it and you can’t go around it, so Burke will rebuild it.

As the town continues to recover from summer flooding, two bridges remain broken.

One is on Brook Road and could cost up to $1 million to fix. The other, the East Burke Community Bridge, is part of the Kingdom Trails, and requires $25,000 to repair.

The town has already raised $5,000 through a GoFundMe.

Town Administrator Jim Sullivan expressed frustration about a lack of help from FEMA but said he is thankful for the community support.

“So the people that come to Burke love Burke. So they understand how hard it is, you know for us. I knew we would get the support, I am counting on it. Failure isn’t an option with this,” Sullivan said.

The town hopes to have the East Burke Community Bridge repaired by the end of October.
