BRANDON, Vt. (WCAX) – A school in southern Vermont will have its football field illuminated by new lights, thanks to a community-based effort.
The Otter Valley Football Club raised more than $300,000 in both funding and donations from local businesses to help illuminate Markowski Field just off Route 7 in Brandon.
Otter Valley alum Nate McKay was one of the first people who pushed for the idea and says it has really brought the community together.
“First night soccer game, I came to games when there was 200 people, now there’s four times that, think football our last Saturday night game we usually had 400 or 500 people, I bet there were 1,200 people over here,” McKay said. “Support like that is amazing, but that’s the community we live in.”
The next big football game at Markowski Field in Brandon is set for Sept. 28 when the Otters host the Milton Yellow Jackets.
