BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – The newly reconstructed Champlain Street Park in Burlington is officially open.
Mayor Emma Mulvaney-Stanak on Wednesday morning cut the ribbon with parks and recreation staff and project donors.
The project has been several years in the making. It was proposed to start in January 2020 but the pandemic delayed construction and funds.
The new playground features accessible equipment and a new light to ensure safety.
“It was such a sad, tired playground before, and the community didn’t really go into it very much because of the way it felt; it felt very dark. Now, it’s very bright and open, and we have an inclusive and accessible playground. So, we really have noticed already the community coming into this place and welcoming it as their community playground,” said Cindi Wight, the director of Burlington Parks and Recreation.
Officials say the Parks and Recreation Department will focus on Pomeroy Park as their next playground renovation.
