Pawlet Select Board honors member killed in triple murder

PAWLET, Vt. (WCAX) – A Vermont community is in mourning as town officials address a triple murder in Pawlet.

Police say Pawlet Select Board Member Brian Crossman, 46, his wife, Erica, 41, and Erica’s son, Colin Taft, 13, were found shot to death early Sunday morning.

Police say right now, no one is in custody.

But sources tell WCAX News police have identified a person of interest who is a relative of the victims.

At Tuesday night’s Pawlet Select Board meeting, Chair Mike Beecher started the meeting by reading a statement honoring Brian Crossman.

“Brian Crossman was a friend and a neighbor, a hardworking community member, who, just this year, stepped up to join the Pawlet Select Board. This tragedy that struck him and his family also hit our community very hard. We are all shaken and grieving. Our hearts go out to everyone affected by this devastating loss,” Beecher said.

Flowers were placed at the seat where Crossman usually sat.

Police say the murder investigation is ongoing.
