Police identify parent responsible for threats made to Troy Elementary School

TROY, Vt. (WCAX) – Vermont State Police released the name of the parent who they say made threats against personnel at Troy Elementary School, sending the school into lockdown twice.

Police say on September 12th, 45-year-old Michael Liberta of Troy called the school making life-threatening statements at staff members and others.

School officials say Liberta didn’t go on campus that day, but due to the serious nature of the threats, the superintendent placed the school on lockdown and police stayed on-site.

They also say that Liberta was the same parent who sent the Northeast Kingdom school into lockdown just a week before on the 4th, when he showed up angry about an issue involving his child.

Liberta is now facing a charge of disturbing the peace by electronic communication and was issued a citation to appear in court on October 15th.
