Vermont man accused of hate crime

BERLIN, Vt. (WCAX) – A Berlin, Vermont, man is accused of a hate crime.

Police say Wednesday morning they were called to Founders Way for a report of a man lunging at his neighbor with a knife.

They identified the man as Mikle Koons, 24, of Berlin, but have not released details about what led to the incident or the reason for the alleged hate-motivated charge.

Police say Koons asked to be seen at the Central Vermont Medical Center where they say he began to yell at and make vulgar statements to the staff.

He’s due in court Wednesday afternoon on a number of charges including reckless endangerment and hate-motivated crime.
