Wallingford set to repair vandalized statue

WALLINGFORD, Vt. (WCAX) – The town of Wallingford is now looking into repairing the vandalized Boy with the Boot statue.

The roughly 100-year-old statue was damaged by still unknown vandals back in August.

The select board said they have multiple people inspecting the broken statue to see what will have to happen for repairs and they are waiting on estimates as to how much that could cost.

Board Chair Kathy Luzader said while they’re without the statue, there have been a few ideas on how to commemorate the Boy with the Boot, which is the center of the town’s summer celebration.

“The first year they silk-screened Wallingford Day shirts, and the symbol is the Boy with the Boot. So I was wearing it last week and going this symbol is missing right now, so one of the talks at the gathering was to maybe put a photo of the Boy in the fountain as long as it’s missing,” Luzader said.

There’s still no word from the police on any suspects in the vandalism.

The select board said they’re setting up a donation fund for the public to contribute toward repairs. Click here for more details.
