Pawlet triple murder suspect due back in court on Thursday

LAKE GEORGE, N.Y. (WCAX) – The man suspected of killing three of his family members in Pawlet earlier this month is due back in court on Thursday.

The hearing in Lake George, New York, will determine when Brian Crossman Jr., 22, of Granville, New York, will face a judge in Vermont.

Crossman Jr. was arrested in New York last week for the shooting deaths of his father, Brian Crossman Sr., 46; his stepmother, Erica Crossman, 41; and his stepbrother, Colin Taft, 13, all of Pawlet.

Crossman Jr. told Vermont police that on Sept. 15, he went for a walk and when he returned to his family’s Pawlet home, he found they had all been shot to death. Investigators say the home was covered in blood, firearms and shell casings, and that Crossman Jr.’s story was inconsistent.

Crossman Jr. faces charges of aggravated murder, the most serious charge in the state, which carries a sentence of life without parole.

If he waives extradition during the hearing on Thursday, he could be in Vermont sooner than later. If he does not, it could still be a month before his next hearing.
