RUTLAND, Vt. (WCAX) – The city of Rutland has requested studies into both the quality and the efficiency of its drinking water systems.
City officials last year found higher than normal levels of disinfectant byproducts in the water. Since then the Department of Public Works has asked the EPA to look at improving the treatment process at the filtration plant.
“Our system needs work. I think the attention you’re seeing is part of my administration recognizing that in order to move forward and grow the city and keep things where we want them to be, we need to have a good foundation in place and making sure that areas that have the biggest challenges are taken care of first,” said Rutland Mayor Mike Doenges.
The department is expecting to hold public meetings on water quality, efficiency, and cost in the near future.
