BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – A new food concession in Burlington’s City Hall Park says they had a productive first season and are looking forward to expanding their business.
The Himalayan D’Lite kiosk opened in mid-August. In addition to offering Nepali fare, the city hopes the business will add more vitality and foot traffic to what has been an area plagued with quality-of-life crime and drug problems.
Nurbu Sherpa, the stand’s owner, says he had had no safety issues since opening and that like any other new business, they are working to build up their customer base. “In the beginning, it was a little tough. And I just gotta keep persevering, keep going. And we are doing more advertising, marketing, so hopefully that will help,” he said.
Sherpa says he also hopes to host a traditional Nepali momo-eating contest in the park soon.
The business is donating money from each purchase to local nonprofits.
