North Country Honor Flight funding to get boost

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (WCAX) – North Country Honor Flights are getting a funding boost.

New York Assemblyman Billy Jones, D-Chateaugay Lake, says the group is getting $100,000 from this year’s budget to help bring veterans to Washington D.C.

Barrie Finnegan, the group’s executive director, says it’s the single-largest donation made so far. He says 880 North Country Veterans have been able to make the trips, at a cost of around $35,000 per trip.

“This really gives us a boost, where the local fundraisers that we do throughout the year all replenish everything. So, it is that cushion we have never had,” he said.

Finnegan says about 30 vets are preparing to fly Saturday.
