ST. JOHNSBURY, Vt. (WCAX) – The St. Johnsbury School District has finally completed their new playground. Since the beginning of June, crews have been working to re-build all of the schools play structures including the basketball courts.
The upgrade comes as there has been a need for enhanced outdoor spaces that promote the physical, social, and emotional wellbeing. Teachers say they have seen new behavioral issues in kids since Covid. Kids were able to start playing on the renovated playgrounds for the first time this past week. All there is left to do, is finish the school’s outdoor classroom. “They are really enjoying the outdoor space. Being able to get some exercise. I also see a lot of skills, transferable skills going on. With leadership, and you know they are taking turns,” said Superintendent Karen Conroy.
The school hopes to complete the outdoor classroom in the next couple weeks.
