Champlain College launches cybersecurity program for Vt. high school students

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – A Vermont college has a new program to help high schoolers pursue jobs in cybersecurity, while also helping to fill the workforce.

The dual-enrollment program is a partnership between Champlain College and NuHarbor Security. It offers high school juniors and seniors up to 12 college credits and hands-on experience in the cybersecurity field.

“A great part of it is that there’s absolutely no cost to the students or their families, and included with that course sequence is an internship at the Champlain College Leahy Center for Digital Forensics and Cybersecurity, where students will be working with real projects, you know, right in that initial course sequence,” said Adam Goldstein, Champlain College’s academic director for cybersecurity.

Completing the program also gives students conditional acceptance to Champlain.

The partnership comes as officials say 500,000 cybersecurity jobs are currently unfilled in the U.S.
