BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – A teen charged in connection with a violent assault in Burlington will not serve any new jail time.
Antonio Hammond, 18, of Burlington, was the primary suspect in an assault outside Mr. Mike’s Pizza in August, when a group of people attacked a 43-year-old man, punching and kicking him in the head after he allegedly used racial slurs.
Friday in court, Hammond agreed to a plea deal, pleading guilty to charges of simple assault and aggravated assault. The more serious charge will be deferred for the next 3.5 years while Hammond is on probation. Under the agreement, if Hammond violates his probation, he can be sentenced to up to 15 years in prison.
