Residents raise safety concerns as repairs continue on flood-damaged roads

LYNDONVILLE, Vt. (WCAX) – There are still safety concerns as crews continue to repair roads from this summer’s devastating flooding.

Residents on Red Village Road in Lyndonville have noticed an increase in nonresidential road traffic after nearby Severance Hill Road was reopened.

This comes despite Red Village Road still being closed amid ongoing construction.

When Rose Reynolds’ cat was struck and killed on the road, it pushed her to speak about the issue at a select board meeting this week.

“They asked me what is it that you want, and I said I want the road to be clearly marked so that this won’t happen again because we lost our cat,” Reynolds said.

Town officials have now put up a “road closed to thru traffic” sign at the intersection with Severance Hill Road and they’ve added traffic cones marking the roadway.

Reynolds hopes this will remind people to use caution when driving through areas that are rebuilding for the safety of children, pets and construction workers.
