Writers for Recovery celebrates 10 years of helping people

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Sobering words from people in recovery who have written about their personal stories of addiction: the struggles, the success and the hard work it takes to get there.

It’s all done through workshops held by Writers for Recovery. They take place at recovery and treatment centers, in prisons and more.

The founders say after writing, they share their stories with people who understand. And the workshops help to maintain their sobriety.

“It’s also a place where you come together once a week for 10 weeks and form a community. A safe space. The place to share your thoughts. And when you’re in recovery, you need a place to go to. To be a part of. To connect to,” said Bess O’Brien, the co-founder of Writers for Recovery.

Writers for Recovery marks its 10-year anniversary with a celebration on Sat., Oct. 19, at 7 p.m. at the Old Labor Hall in Barre. It’s free to go.

You can learn more about the program this Sunday morning at 11:30 a.m. on “You Can Quote Me” on WCAX Channel 3.
