Foliage train rides back at Fall for St. Johnsbury

ST. JOHNSBURY, Vt. (WCAX) – Fall in love with St. Johnsbury Saturday at their Fall for St. Johnsbury event.

The highlight of the day will be the return of the fall foliage trains after five years. Riders will enjoy a scenic hour and a half roundtrip journey between St. Johnsbury and Ryegate.

The train trip will offer a glimpse of the Northeast Kingdom’s fall foliage along the Passumpsic and Connecticut Rivers.

Officials from Discover St. Johnsbury say they’ve been working with Vermont Rail Systems for the past year to bring the rides back.

“As soon as it started to get out that the train rides were coming back, a lot train enthusiasts came out of the woodwork and are supporting this event,” Gillian Sawake said. “We have nine different volunteers who are going to be on the trains, hosting the cars, so they’ll be there to provide information.”

The train rides are just one of several activities taking place. Visitors can also enjoy an international food festival, art gallery stroll, a vintage clothing market, and a kids activity area. Events will run from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
