PAUL SMITHS, NY. (WCAX) – The Adirondack Center for Loon Conservation continued its annual celebration of the loon, a recognizable and charismatic symbol of the North Country’s natural world.
This year’s celebration, at the Paul Smith’s College Visitor Interpretive Center featured a loon call contest, a retired forest ranger, and a raffle for a canoe.
The Center for Loon Conservation staff said this year had one of the largest turnouts ever.
“It’s amazing to have so many people here that are legitimately here because they love loons. They care about loons, they want to learn more about them and interact with other people that love them. And, like I said, that’s just something we want to inspire in people, a love for loons, which will turn into a love for the environment.” Griffin Archambeault of Adirondack Center for Loon Conservation said.
The Adirondack Center for Loon Conservation researches loons and works to protect the species while encouraging people to care about the environment.
