BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Vermont’s governor is imploring leaders of the state’s largest city to keep one of their emergency housing campsites open.
Last month, Burlington opened 12 campsites at the North Beach campground for families displaced by the end of the state’s hotel-motel housing program.
Now, with the scheduled closing of the campground for the season, those families are again being displaced.
Wednesday, the governor said he asked the city to keep the campground open for another week but was told no.
Scott said there were six families utilizing North Beach but the city would not confirm the number of people being kicked out.
One family told WCAX News they are now living in their car. We don’t know where the other families went.
