Cabot Hosiery invests in efficiency upgrades at Northfield factory

NORTHFIELD, Vt. (WCAX) – The maker of Darn Tough socks is spotlighting energy efficiency upgrades at their Northfield headquarters.

The company received a loan to complete upgrades to the factory’s roof to help them reduce energy costs and carbon emissions. Using $1 million in funding, The Vermont Public Power Supply Authority created a new program to help businesses reduce fossil fuel consumption.

“We’ve been struggling for the past five years, at least, to figure out ways we move these projects along and find ways to remove the hurdles. In doing that, we ended up in a conversation with Senator Sander’s office and talking about what are ways we can use federal funds to do so,” said VPPSA’s Ken Nolan.

Over half the funding went to the factory, which will repay the loan over five years.
