FEMA: Vermonters have 1 month left to apply for disaster assistance

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Time is ticking for Vermonters in need of flood recovery assistance.

The application deadline for FEMA disaster assistance is November 25, just over a month away. There are separate applications for the two declared disasters — July 9-11 and July 29-31. Those impacted by both floods need to submit separate applications.

FEMA has approved more than $10.2 million in federal assistance so far for those storms, which includes $8.2 million for 1,559 individuals and households.

Approved counties for the July 9th-11th storm include Addison, Caledonia, Chittenden, Essex, Lamoille, Orleans, and Washington Counties.

The July 29-31 designated areas include Caledonia, Essex, and Orleans Counties.

Three Disaster Recovery Centers remain open in Vermont to help people fill out forms or ask questions. Individuals can also call the FEMA Helpline at 1-800-621-3362.

The deadline for individuals and businesses to apply for SBA assistance is also November 25. The SBA’s Customer Service Center at (800) 659-2955.
