BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – A UVM researcher is part of a team of scientists conducting a study to map out a fruit fly brain.
Davi Bock, a professor of neurological sciences at UVM’s Robert Larner College of Medicine, was part of a team of scientists funded by the National Institutes of Health
The fruit fly’s brain contains around 130,000 neurons and the complete map is expected to help researchers identify how different circuits work together to control behaviors like motor control, courtship, decision-making, memory, learning, and navigation.
The study, “Whole-brain annotation and multi-connectome cell typing of Drosophila,” was recently published in Nature.
Katharine Huntley spoke with Bock about the research and its potential appliations.
