Vermont tourism officials release updated eclipse, tourism numbers

MONTPELIER, Vt. (WCAX) – Vermont officials on Friday released two reports that indicate tourism continues to be a major economic driver for the Green Mountain State.

The Vermont Department of Tourism and Marketing says visitors to see last April’s eclipse spent an estimated $34 million in the state.

That number is dwarfed by foliage spending, which brings in an average of $500 million every year.

The report notes that most eclipse visitors only stayed in the state for the day, while leaf peepers tend to stay longer and spend more.
