RANDOLPH, Vt. (WCAX) – After years of uncertainty, the Vermont State University system is heading in the right direction. That’s according to the University’s President, David Bergh.
Bergh made the comments this week at the Randolph campus where they are celebrating the construction of a new meat processing facility. It comes as the state university system works to make itself sustainable for the long term.
Last year- the system was forced to slash programs and jobs, in an effort to address millions in debt and declining enrollment.
“We’ve had our challenges, we’ve had a lot of tough decisions that have had to be made as a result of that,” Bergh said. “We are really at a point where we are focused on growth as a strategy to move forward. Through increase enrollment we are seeing through our apprenticeship programs as well in our traditional offerings, you know we really see that as our path forward.”
Bergh says the meat processing facility which eventually lead to an associates degree is an example of things the university is doing to attract more students.
A recent report states that the university enrollment is trending in the right direction about 5% over last year.
