SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Saturday is the DEA’s National Drug Take Back Day. South Burlington police collected unneeded drugs in the University Mall parking lot.
Bins filled with prescription and over-the-counter drugs. Police also accepted pet medication.
They rejected items such as used needles and inhalers.
Drug take backs help protect communities and the environment, police say.
“No questions asked. Next step, take them to a spot where they’ll dispose of them in a proper manner. That way it doesn’t get into the wrong hands and it’s not harmful to anybody, preventing any kind of unintentional overdose or, again, harm to the environment — that’s why we’re doing this,” Detective Sgt. Dave MacDonough said.
There is a drug take-back box in the SBPD station lobby available year-round.
