BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Firefighters in New York are getting new tools to better respond to your community.
Governor Kathy Hochul announced $25 million in funding for volunteer fire services in New York.
According to Governor Hochul, the state has 1,6000 volunteer fire departments.
88 organizations are getting the cash earmarked for improved facilities, equipment, training, and personal protective equipment.
“It’s a new grant program, and this will support firefighters all across the state – large communities and small – and support facility improvements, and help you purchase that life-saving essential equipment that is wildly expensive, that is too hard for individual companies to do,” said Hochul.
$10 million in funding is also going to help cover the cost of training new firefighters.
Several fire departments in our region will see this money, including the village of Saranac Lake receiving $200,000 for new equipment.
Paul Smith’s Gabriels and Moira fire districts are also on that list.
