New report shows Vermont maintains strong credit rating

MONTPELIER, Vt. (WCAX) – Vermont is boasting a good credit score again this year but it’s still below the perfect score received five years ago.

The state’s double-A rating was reaffirmed this week as the second-best state rating granted by the S&P.

According to the state treasurer’s office, the report credited Vermont’s stable outlook and responsible budgeting practices.

The report did note te challenges of a housing shortage, a weak labor force, and an aging demographic.

Vermont lost its prime triple-a rating in 2019 thanks to concerns about the state’s population, according to the governor.
