BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – The candidates for Vermont lieutenant governor, incumbent David Zuckerman and John Rodgers, will face off in a debate on WCAX Wednesday night.

The lieutenant governor of Vermont is largely a ceremonial position, with only a few key duties: fill in for the governor when they are out of state or unable to do the job, preside over the Senate and help appoint chairs to Senate committees. They also cast tie-breaking votes in the Senate.

Lt. Gov. David Zuckerman, a Progressive/Democrat from Hinesburg. is looking for his third term as Vermont’s number two. John Rodgers of West Glover is a former Democratic lawmaker turned Republican.

This is the third debate in the WCAX 2024 Debate Series. Vermont Independent Senator Bernie Sanders faced off with Republic Gerald Malloy last Thursday.

Vermont Gov. Phil Scott and Esther Charlestin debated on WCAX on Tuesday.
