Man sentenced for bank fraud in Vt., NH, NY

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – A Florida man will spend four years behind bars after stealing $80,000 in an elaborate scheme.

According to court records, in the fall of last year, Scott Jamie Ashness, 44, went to 15 different bank branches across Vermont, New York and New Hampshire pretending to be someone else and took money out of bank accounts.

He did so using falsified passports and driver’s licenses.

In total, he stole more than $80,000.

Ashness pleaded guilty to fraud and identity theft charges and will now spend 48 months in prison.
