Wendell Hughes captures race for Plattsburgh mayor

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (WCAX) – Democrat Wendell Hughes has won the race for Plattsburgh’s open seat as mayor.

Hughes beat Republican Donald Kasprzak by a 54-to 46 percent margin.

Hughes is a Clinton County legislator and was a corrections officer for 30 years. Kasprzak previously served as mayor from 2006 to 2013.

Both candidates highlighted new recreation opportunities and housing as key priorities.

Mayor Chris Rosenquest announced he was stepping down in February. He unsuccessfully ran for Elizabeth Gibbs’ Ward 3 seat.
