Springfield voters overturn hunting ban in park

SPRINGFIELD, Vt. (WCAX) – Springfield voters approved a ballot measure on Tuesday that reverses a hunting ban in a popular park.

There has been a long history of hunting in Hartness Park, but an August selectboard ordinance effectively ended that, prohibiting firing guns within 500 feet of a structure.

Residents against the expanded ordinance gathered close to 400 signatures, the 5% needed to bring the issue to a townwide vote.

The preliminary results indicate the measure allowing hunting to return passed by a 52-percent margin, 1,125 to 1,024
