Tibet Festival returns to Burlington Saturday

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – The Tibetan Association of Vermont puts on its 20th annual festival this weekend.

It’s filled with cultural performances and authentic Tibetan cuisine.

This year, four monks will join the celebration, kicking it off with a universal prayer for world peace.

Tibetan Association of Vermont President Tsering Cummings says the festival is not just about celebration, but also raising awareness about the plight of Tibetans under Chinese communist rule.

“We try to be not only share our culture, the rich culture and the heritage, but we also want to pass it along to our younger generation, as well as be the voice of the unheard and shine a light on the atrocities that’s happening inside Tibet under the Chinese rule,” Cummings said.

The festival is on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the O.N.E. Community Center in Burlington.
