STOWE, Vt. (WCAX) – The town of Stowe wants to let renters know there is now an online registry.
The town has created its first ever short-term rental registration. In order to register renters will be charged a hundred dollars for a full year.
Owners must also provide a way for local fire fighters to be able to get into a short term rental in case of an emergency.
Town officials say the registry is just a way to keep everyone safe and keep track of who is renting in town.
“The basic idea behind the ordinance was basically related to the fire department. So they were having some issues. They would go to a short term rental at two a.m., three a.m. No one would show up. It was causing an issues with our volunteer firefighters,” said Will Fricke, Stowe Assistant Town Manager.
Officials say renters should register starting May 1st.
