Bennington district revote could change Vt. House election results

POWNAL, Vt. (WCAX) – A debacle with district lines and now a potential revote in southern Vermont could send a different person to the Statehouse.

The Vermont Secretary of State’s office released a statement supporting a district-wide revote for Bennington’s 1st district.

That includes parts of Pownal, Woodford, Searsburg, Stamford, and Readsboro.

The Secretary of State says residents on the south side of Barber Pond Road in Pownal got a ballot for District 5, instead of District 1, accounting for about 40 voters.

Because the house seat in Bennington’s 1st district won by only 25 votes a district-wide revote could change the outcome of the election.

A request for a revote must be filed by the losing candidate with Bennington’s Superior Court by Tuesday.
