Burlington man arrested for string of bank robberies

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – A Burlington man has been arrested in connection with a string of bank robberies over the past several weeks.

Federal authorities say Adam Champagne, 42, was arrested Thursday in connection with a robbery at the Key Bank in South Burlington on September 25.

They say he is also a suspect in at least three other Chittenden County bank robberies in Essex, Winooski, and South Burlington over the last two weeks. They say a search of a residence where Champagne was staying in Burlington connected Champagne to the robberies.

Champagne pleaded not guilty on Friday. He faces up to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000.
