Jones thinking about running for Stefanik seat

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (WCAX) – North Country Assemblyman Billy Jones says he’s considering running for Rep. Elise Stefanik’s congressional seat, but it’s still too early to decide.

President-elect Donald Trump tapped Stefanik as his U.S. ambassador to the United Nations.

If she’s confirmed, there will need to be a special election to replace the Republican in the District 21 seat. Many are wondering who will run.

We asked Democratic Assemblyman Jones on Thursday about his interest in replacing Stefanik in Congress.

“If an opportunity comes about where I could represent my constituents in another form or if that does come through, you know, I am seriously thinking about it,” said Jones, D-N.Y. 115th District.

But Jones added it’s still too early so he hasn’t made a decision yet.

He says right now he’s focused on returning to the state Legislature.
