NY veterans donate to Plattsburgh Town’s Battlefield Memorial Gateway

MORRISONVILLE, N.Y. (WCAX) – Veterans in northern New York are pitching in to help pay for Plattsburgh’s Battlefield Memorial Gateway.

Members of the American Legion Post 1619 and others presented a $5,500 donation to the Town of Plattsburgh on Thursday.

Town Supervisor Michael Cashman says more than $25,000 has been raised for the project. The second phase, now underway, includes building a remembrance plaza, amphitheater, veterans walk, and children’s play area.

“These funds will go directly towards building a multi-generational space that honors our veterans and tells the American stories that have occurred right here on Lake Champlain, in the greater Plattsburgh region,” Cashman said.

American Legion officials say they’re also looking for contractors to help fix Crab Island’s flagpole, which was recently damaged by strong winds.
