SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Two community credit unions are hoping become one.
Green Mountain Credit Union and Opportunities Credit Union announced their intent to merge Saturday.
Leaders say the combined organization would have approximately $165 million in assets to enhance its ability to meet the needs of members across Vermont.
The combined organization would keep serving more than 10,000 members in Burlington, South Burlington, Winooski, Berlin and Rutland.
The merger needs approval by both state and federal regulators, and members of both credit credit unions to finalize.
Officials saying they’re hoping to close in 2025.
