BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – A Vermont leader is trying to ensure migrants can keep their essentials on them.
Senator Peter Welch introduced an act to regulate how border patrol handles personal property — when they take someone into custody.
The CBP Guidance on Personal Belongings Act would make sure people in custody can keep their things.
And ensures they have access to their medications while in custody.
The act comes after several organizations found hundreds of instances when border patrol threw out migrants’ legal documents, medications, and religious items.
