New food pantry opens its doors in Northern New York

LAKE PLACID, N.Y. (WCAX) – A new food pantry is now open in Lake Placid.

We first told you about “Thrive and Thrift” in June. For the last month, it has been settling into its new building next to the Olympic Center in the village of Lake Placid.

So far, hundreds of people have come to pick up food, including more than 80 families on Thanksgiving.

The pantry’s executive director, Linda Young, says there are about 40 volunteers on staff and they have plans to open a thrift store section at the end of December.

“It benefits so, so many people. Everybody is so, so thankful and so are we that do the mission, we are all volunteers,” Young said.

Thrive and Thrift will start accepting donations for the thrift store on Dec. 7.
