Vt. man crashed into NH police cruiser, troopers say

SUTTON, N.H. (WCAX) – A Vermont man faces multiple charges after troopers say he crashed into a New Hampshire state police cruiser.

It happened Thursday shortly after 10 a.m. on Interstate 89 in Sutton. State police said at the time, there were dozens of crashes and vehicles off the road in the area due to a snowstorm.

They say a trooper was in the right breakdown lane helping a motorist who went off the road, when a car driving too fast for conditions slid in the snow and hit the police cruiser, and then kept sliding and hit a fire chief’s pickup truck that was also at the scene.

Investigators say Daniel Poroj, 22, of Shelburne, Vermont, was behind the wheel of the car that hit the cruiser and the pickup. He faces charges including driving too fast for conditions, negligent driving, operating without a license and having an unregistered vehicle.

Poroj and the trooper were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Police say the police cruiser Poroj hit was fully marked and had its blue lights going, and there was also a transportation truck with amber lights and a message board directing drivers to “Move Over” with an arrow.
