BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Cyber Monday will come and go, but the IRS wants you to stay safe when you swipe for gifts all week long.
Monday kicks off the start of National Tax Security Awareness Week.
The Internal Revenue Service and Security Summit partners want you to protect sensitive financial information.
They say during the holiday season, scammers ramp up efforts to trick you into sharing sensitive information via email, text messages, and social media schemes – and use it to steal your tax refunds.
Some tips they recommend include not shopping on unsecured wifi networks, making sure safety software is up to date, using strong passwords, and using multi-factor authentification whenever possible.
