Annual audit confirms Vermont vote totals in selected towns

MONTPELIER, Vt. (WCAX) – Vermonters’ votes were counted correctly in last month’s election, according to an independent audit conducted on Tuesday.

An independent audit of seven randomly selected towns is required by law. This year, Boston-based Clear Ballot scanned and double-checked ballots from Bennington-2, Burke, Caanan, Dorset, Pawlet, Vergennes, and Winooski.

Just over 372,000 Vermonters cast ballots in the November election, a new state record.

Since the audits began in 2006, leaders say they have not found any significant problems in the vote counts.
