WHITEHALL, N.Y. (WCAX) – Most residents of one North Country community now have water coming from their taps after several days without it, but it’s still not safe to drink.
A state of emergency remains in effect in Whitehall, New York.
Officials declared the emergency on Sunday after a critical failure in the village water system, which led to a shortage. Efforts to restore water to the village have been underway since then.
Village officials said crews made significant progress on the water treatment facility on Wednesday and most residents should see water from their taps again. However, they shouldn’t use it because a boil-water emergency and conservation restrictions are still in effect.
