BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – After last December’s floods and 2 years of summer flooding, some Vermont communities are bracing for the worst with potential for flooding in the forecast.
Montpelier was just one community devastated by flooding over the last two years, and Wednesday morning they are asking you to be ready.
The capital city says it will monitor water levels and take steps to prepare, such as placing road-closed signs along flood-prone Lower State Street.
There are things you can do as well. City officials advise elevating items in basements or low-lying areas.
For previous flooding events, Vermont emergency management has recommended having an evacuation plan and packing a to-go bag with all of the essentials you need in a day like a change of clothes, cell phone, and medications.
Officials also recommend signing up for VT Alerts for the latest information and checking New England 511 for road closures as you head out for your day on Thursday.
