BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Two school nurses in Burlington were honored Friday with a statewide award.
At a surprise assembly at the Flynn Elementary School, Mary Dunsmore was greeted by a loud, school-wide celebration after she was named School Nurse of the Year by the Vermont State School Nurse Association.
Moments later, the Burlington School District’s lead nurse, Becca McCray, had a surprise of her own after being named the School Nurse Administrator of the Year.
Both women say they get back as much as they give. “It’s a major impact ‘cause we see kids from preschool to 5th grade –many, many issues working with them is what makes your day,” Dunsmore said.
“I am extremely grateful. I am well supported by both my family and work family and I feel incredibly valued,” McCray said.
Both nurses were recommended for the awards by their peers.
