Police: Pedestrian hit by DUI driver dies at hospital

TOWNSHEND, Vt. (WCAX) – Police say a Windham County man critically injured by a drugged driver on Monday has now died from his injuries.

Vermont State Police say Jamee Shields, 26, of Townshend, was driving a pickup on Route 30 around 6:30 p.m. Monday when she hit Shane Whittaker, 24, of Jamaica, Vermont, and rolled her vehicle. Whittaker was rushed to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, but police on Friday said he died from his injuries.

Shields already faced a slew of charges for allegedly driving under the influence of drugs and having a child in the car. She’s likely to face additional charges when she appears in court next month.
