UVM men’s soccer advances to first national championship in program history

CARY, N.C. (WCAX) – The Vermont men’s soccer team will play for a national championship for the first time in program history on Monday.

The Catamounts downed Denver in penalty kicks on Friday night to punch their ticket to the College Cup final. After Sam Bassett put the Pioneers ahead in the second half, Yaniv Bazini equalized with under seven minutes to go to give Vermont new life.

Niklas Herceg made two saves in the penalty round, as Vermont converted all of their tries.

The Catamounts will face the winner of Ohio State and Marshall on Monday night.
